A remote microphone is a part of an assistive listening device. It is a microphone that can be worn by a speaker or set near the speaker on a table or desk, such as in a meeting or classroom. It wirelessly sends the speech to a receiver that is either located in the listener’s hearing aids, around their neck, or in a speaker near them. The purpose of the remote microphone is to help the listener understand the speaker more clearly, especially in noisy environments. Many hearing aid manufacturers now have remote microphone accessories which can be used in conjunction with their hearing aids to improve speech understanding in noise.
