Hearing aids which have a behind-the-ear component, and an in-the-ear component. The portion of the hearing aid which fits behind the ear includes the microphone, amplifier, digital processor, and battery. The receiver of the hearing aid sits in the canal of the ear which is coupled to either a dome or a custom earmold. There are a wide range of shapes and sizes, fitting a range of hearing losses from mild to profound. This hearing aid style has become very popular in recent years due to it’s overall style, comfort, and ability to fit a wide range of hearing loss. Receiver-in-the-ear hearing aids are sometimes also called receiver-in-the-canal hearing aids (RIC).
