Measurements of your hearing aids performed by your hearing healthcare professional to verify that the hearing aids are working properly. This verification measurement helps the professional determine whether the hearing aids are amplifying the speech sounds as they are supposed to. If there is a problem with the settings of the hearing aids, the real-ear measurements allow the professional to adjust the hearing aids accordingly.
The measurement is performed by having the hearing aid wearer sit in front of a computer device, while a passage is played. The examiner will insert a small tube into the wearer’s ear canal, underneath the hearing aid. The tube will then measure the sound being picked up by the hearing aid when the speech passage is played.
