A pressure equalization tube (PE Tube) is a very small tube which is inserted into the eardrum by an Otolaryngologist or Otologist in order to ventilate the middle ear and treat and prevent middle ear infection. PE tubes are more commonly used in children, but may be used in anyone that has chronic ear infections or difficulty pressurizing the middle ear due to Eustachian tube dysfunction.
