A substance that is toxic to the ear, usually a type of medication. These drugs can cause toxic reactions to the structures of the inner ear, resulting in hearing loss, tinnitus, and/or dizziness. Drug-induced ototoxicity will depend on drug used, as well as dose and duration of use. Some commonly known ototoxic medications include aminoglycoside antibiotics and platinum-containing chemotherapy drugs.
