An objective test is a test that excludes the subjective opinion or response of the examinee. Objective tests have only one correct or normal response, leaving no room for opinion. Tests performed by Audiologists which are objective, include Otoacoustic Emissions (OAEs) or electrophysiology testing such as Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR). These tests do not require the patient to respond to stimuli and the results are classified as normal or abnormal based on clinical standards. Objective tests are useful for young children or adults with cognitive impairment who are unable to respond reliably to stimulus.
