A hearing aid evaluation, also called an aural rehabilitation assessment or communication assessment, is an appointment with a hearing healthcare professional in which hearing rehabilitation options are discussed to determine how to best manage the hearing loss. This may include a discussion about hearing aid options, assistive listening device technology, other hearing technology options, and/or communication strategies and auditory training.
The purpose of this evaluation is to determine which management options would best meet the needs of the person with hearing loss. There is not one hearing aid or one course of management that is the best for everyone. It is going to depend on the individual’s communication needs and lifestyle.
During the appointment, you may be asked to answer specific questions about your lifestyle. This is to determine which rehabilitation options would meet your needs. You may also be able to try hearing aids or other technology in the office, while the hearing healthcare professional demonstrates how it would help you.
