Separating hearing loss from other problems that may have effects similar to those of hearing loss. Determining whether a hearing loss exists or whether the problem is the result of another condition, such as a language delay or autism in children. Differential Diagnosis is also used to determine the location and cause of the hearing loss, such as an ear infection versus a noise-induced hearing loss. This is done with a thorough case history and complete audiologic assessment.
